Tell me about Rancho Cucamonga, CA, and your relationship to it, please. I'm intently curious what you may have to say. Thank you.

The only recollection I have of Rancho Cucamonga is a reference to it in the movie Bring it On...

They make honey there. My uncle used to be Vice Principal in nearby Santa Fe Springs (and he and my aunt and their kids used to live in Rialto, also nearby). It's in the middle of Nowhere Nothingland (capital: Hemet, CA). Cucamonga is a Tongva word (the Tongva are native to the area, and also known as Gabrieleno Indians), as are Azusa and Topanga. This by itself should give one some impression of the phonetics of Tongva language. The Tongva used abolone shell as currency, which I think shows a certain aesthetic flare that our money for the most part lacks. We used to drive by Rancho Cucamonga on our way to Idyllwild for Thanksgiving every year. The end.

The closest I have ever been to Rancho Cucamonga is to Claremont, where I interviewed for a job. It was smoggy, so I probably did not see Rancho Cucamonga.

But it is fun to type.

It sounds like something on the Taco Bell menu.

I never lived in Rancho Cucamonga, CA, but I did live in Rancho Cordova, CA

Well, there's always the old Jack Benny routine where Mel Blanc announces the arrival or departure of a train to or from Anaheim, Azusa, and Cucamonga.

I think it grew the "Rancho" on the front of the name in the '80s.
