Yet another evening that i feel a need write. I remember when that meant picking up a pen and using paper. Of course, i've found barely any of my pens, though i have found some of the paper. Nice absorbent paper, that really takes the ink. My blotter has been found and unpacked, and is back at its usual roost on a bookshelf. It might fun a day to try western script using my Chinese inks, brushes, and paper.

Tonight, i wanted more than anything to talk to someone; not sure why or about what. So, in the abscence of direct human interaction, tonight, i reach out via electrons and introduce you to CRK. He's not on LJ. His name is Chris, but i've always filed him under his initials in my head, heart, and files.

CRK's tale of woe. There's a light at the end of the tunnel, but he can't see it yet )
Anyway, i tried calling him tonight. He didn't answer. I hope this means he was asleep, and not just too depressed to bother to talk.

After leaving a short, hey, how ya doin' message for him, i read several more chapters in the book i'd started after dinner. But i still wanted to talk, though i'm not sure about what. So, i thought about calling Fred.

You do remember Fred, don't you? He was separated from his wife, and was released from a mental ward after 3 days confinement, and showed up at my door. I took him in for a year, and kvetched quite a bit in that time. Happily, our relationship endured, as did mine and [livejournal.com profile] nadyalec's after our episode of sharing housing. I ended up not dialing him, as he's in school, and very busy, and by then it was twenty of twenty-three. I miss him. Our relationship is rather mystical, yet grounded. We share a strong connection on a deep level. There are very few other humans to whom i feel that connected. I'll not enumerate others here and now; somehow, that would be rude, at least from my point of view.

Um, i think i'm done blathering for now.

A friend of mine is on a pre-med track. He's been assigned to research Religious, spcefically denominational, views of stem cell research. We found data on the topic from a variety of Abramic groups, including but not limited to: UUs, Witnesses, Roman Catholics, Reform Jews, Consevative Jews, Muslims, and and many other groups. One Abrahamic group we found no info on the topic for was the Religious Society of Friends.

So, if you be Friend, Buddhist, what-have-you, does your religious denomination/path have a position on stem cells and stem cell research? Please identify the denomination/path and provide references when possible. Thank you.

At 08:58 GMT-5, i said, "Ok. I must leave the house today for at least a short while. I could hike along the river, or head out to the mountains. Other suggestions?"

I got one reply, from [livejournal.com profile] moviebear, at 14:26 GMT-5, suggesting i join her for lunch in Gaithersburg, MD. She is one of the most wonderful people i know, and would love to have lunch with her, but about 10 min before she posted, I'd arrived in lovely Paris.

the details )

So, longish story short, the planned 8.5 mile hike came out to more like 12, and most of it uphill. I am now well-fed, freshly bathed, and off to my bed, complete with freshly laundered linens, and tennis-ball-in-the-dryer-fluffed pillows. As a teaser, the footnotes to the story:

* Named for an 18th century governor, pronounced 'faw-KEER', though his Huguenot ancestors probably said it as 'foh-key-AY'.

** Pronounced 'DAY-la-plane'. It's corrupted French, and means Of/from the plain. The town is next to, and below, the town of The Plains.

*** Yes, it's really called Licking. Licking River, Licking County, Licking Township. (Do you really think i'd make up a name like that.) There are naturally occurring salt licks along the river, hence the name. And the profusion of dairy farms in the area. Though today, thanks to Columbus' booming population, the county is converting to horse farms in the east (where most of my family is), and housing in the west.
