This & That
Sep. 19th, 2005 10:07 amThe system i use to do my job at work just went down is highly unstable.
I had a great time at
chez_turtle on Saturday evening. I even had enough energy to play games after spending the afternoon at a picnic, the desert leftovers of which provided a prodigious amount of chocolaty things to the Chez Turtle party.
My friend Chris who was in New Orleans called me with an update on Saturday too. I spoke with him for most of my first hour at the picnic. He'd been staying with friends in the Houston area. He registered with the Red Cross because he was running out of his meds. They sent him to a doc who gave him new scrips, and Walgreens filled them for free.
Now, however, he's in Guelph, Ontario. The University of Guelph announced that they would accept any Tulane history student, tuition-free. So he went. Tulane will pay him his stipend for the year in US$. UGuelph will pay him CA$4900/per semester on top of that. A check from FEMA arrived for him on the 10th, which allowed him to drive from Houston to Guelph. Bonus on top of all that, his housing is free because he chose student housing, and he qualifies for Ontario's medical plan since he's a student there. When he called me, he was at Canadian Tire buying new electronics, and a few shirts. So he'll be spending this year at Guelph, finishing the master's in history Tulane insisted he have. He'll graduate that degree from Tulane, even though he's finishing coursework at Guelph. He's likely to then apply directly to Guelph for the PhD. We'll see what happens.
Sunday i slpet late and then helped
lionessprite and P put her desk together; she moved on Saturday. I then went to Udupi Palace in Langley Park with them,
selki, and B & H. I know not which, if any, of P, B, or H is on lj. Then
lionessprite and i moved her china from her old place to the new one, and i retrieved her carpet cleaner, cause my carpet needs a going-over.
No i'm at work, awaiting not only the db to stabilize, but for at least 2 of the remote sites i need to update to come back on line. I've been waiting a week for FAAM. Ah, well, someday...
