cream is massively different from sour cream, and the result is not going to be the same; the recipe you see there will be more like a pecan pie sort of creamy consistancy, while what you're proposing will be more custardy. There *is* a standard pie using sour cream that you might find similar; google for 'sour cream pie' (http://www.google.com/search?q=%22sour+cream+pie%22&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-GB:official&client=firefox-a) to find it.
I will bow to others on the alchemical baking ramifications, but I will say that I do like sour cream. I think berries and dark chocolate go pretty well with it, too. :-)
Hmm, probably not. It might work, but it would certainly be quite different from the original.
Flavorwise, it's a very simple recipe, so the tang of the sour cream will probably really stick out. Not necessarily bad, but it'll make it all about the sour cream.
Texturally, I have no idea what it'll do, but likely something weird.
