It seems to want me to set up a calendar rather than showing me your calendar.

It seems to prefer that you configure a Google Calendar account in order to view other calendars. That's how mine got set up initially. I'm only using it now for the convenience of others, even through the inconvenience of them needing to set up yet another free account, if one linked to your Google login and account.
