I Will Not Give Whole Foods a Red Cent
Jan. 26th, 2010 01:12 amUntil this policy for their team members is discontinued. Summary: the lower your BMI, the higher your employee discount.
I used to work for them. My total cholesterol is 205 LDL, 400 HDL. Those numbers have not changed since it was first measured in1983. I ate meat and those were the numbers. I've been vegan and those were the numbers. Ovo-lacto veggie, those were the numbers. Walking 6 miles plus a day, those are the numbers. Therefore, i am physiologically ineligible for their larger discount according to what is posted at the above link.
Complements of Kate Harding, is the Illustrated BMI Categories, aka The BMI Project.
This policy of Whole Foods is not only wrongheaded, but of questionable legality in my opinion, for they are adjusting non-healthcare benefits based on what amounts to physical appearance or even health. That is not legal. I will so be visiting my local Whole Foods tomorrow to let the store team leader know why i will no longer shop there.
