[livejournal.com profile] benhill's out of touwn, and for that matter the country, this week. (He's my roomie, for those who didn't know; i rent rooms from him because he feels his house is too big for just him.) So, just me, the cats, and the dog. I had planned to retile my bathroom while he was gone, but being sick, i have not enough energy to even strip the walls to prep. :|

This time around, i'm totally taking it easy while on the antibiotics. It's nice that i have the option this time; no obligations, no impositions to keep me from doing so. Hell, just going to work today left me totally wiped.

For those not in the loop, by the time the Sheva Brochos for [livejournal.com profile] lonebear and [livejournal.com profile] giraffeaholic, i had a fever of 101.6F. On waking Monday, it was down to 1000.9F, so went to doctor, where it was up to 101.9F. They gave me amoxocillin and duratuss for infections and sinusitis. Fever broke Monday night. I stayed home Tuesday just because, and had a drug reaction to the Duratuss. Back to doctor Wednesday, fever of 100F. No work that day nor Thursday. Went in on Friday, but was totally wiped by end of day, and not very useful in general.

I just reviewed my johari and nohari windows. Interestingly, to me, is the fact that no one has selected patient in the johari for me. I guess that means most people have never seen that aspect of me; at work, it's a thing i get complimented on a lot. For that matter, my saint-like patience is my personal favourite virtue. *shrug* not that it matters in the least, really.

I spent a chunk of time at work today reading two best of posts by [livejournal.com profile] melted_snowbal, specifically the fidelity one and the French og and ogg one. I plan to read the third one from part 7 tomorrow; i did have to do a bit at work today.

Some moons ago, [livejournal.com profile] dr_tectonic commented in [livejournal.com profile] madbodger's LJ. I liked what [livejournal.com profile] dr_tectonic had to say, brains are a huge plus with me; i'm such an intelectual snob. Anyway, i looked at his userpic and thought, "He's cute and looks gay," so clicked through, read back a bit in his LJ, liked what i readand friended him. not long thereafter, i friended his parter [livejournal.com profile] kung_fu_monkey, who is equally interesting, as [livejournal.com profile] saintpookie has proven to be also.

Their triad makes me a bit wistful for back when CRK, J and I were a threesome. I guess we'll see where things go with Jim, i know he's interested in that. Anyway...

Via Dr. T et al, i became acquainted with [livejournal.com profile] melted_snowball, whose handle won me over from day one. Of course, coming from a land where snow oft melts the same day it falls, if the precipitation bothers to be snow rather than ice or rain, snow is fascinating to me. I loved my winter in New England, even with the wake-up-and-shovel-the-snow, come-home-from-work-and-shovel-the-snow, shovel-the-snow-and-go-to-bed rhythm of November through May. They do winter up there like we do summer here. I'm really glad to have expreienced that.

Back to the main thread again: [livejournal.com profile] melted_snowball led me to his partner [livejournal.com profile] da_lj, who is most interesting also.

I look forward to meeting each of them in the flesh, not to mention the totally fabulous Barbie Tarot. They each would fit in quite well with my friends here in Baltiwash land. It's neat the quasi-random connections one makes here in LJland.

Your roommate apparently has a bit of contempt for faith.

This is true. What makes you say that, if i may ask? I can filter him out of this entry, also, if that would please you for the purpose of responding.

It was just that I clicked on the link to his blog and the first thing I saw was a list of reasons why pretty much every traditional practice ever is laughable.

I just looked. Yeah, that thread made me laugh, as condescending as it is. He's a Skeptic. I'm oddly Rationalist for the deeply spiritual person i am, and i've told him all about souls and ghosts, among other things. He listens to me mostly becuase i admit that there is no scientific basis for my beliefs. I also do not feel a need for a scientific basis for that which is Spritual, nor does he, but he only respects religious and/or spiritual people who have given it a lot of thought.

There's a guy at work who went from atheist to fundy xian. Ben respects him, as do i, as much as we each despise fundyism on the whole, in part, because this man thought about it, and found what works for him spiritually. He also does not proselytize, and only discusses religion when it's brought up by the other party.

I see atheism and fundamentalism as existing along a continuum of absolute ontologies.

Well, duh. And, to his credit, i know that fundie atheists piss [livejournal.com profile] benhill off a great deal.

I tried out your nohari. I hovered between aloof and distant, because although you've given me warm (friendly) greetings and we like each other, we don't talk much about emotional stuff, but in the end I didn't pick either, because really we haven't spent much time in small groups, so why would we have? For what it's worth, since those words came up in the facade.

I guess run-on sentences could be a weakness of mine. :-)

I'm very slow to warm up to people, and generally even slower to let people in, such as it were. Frankly, stuff i write here never ceases to amaze me.

*chuckle*

For a change of pace, it doesn't look like we're travelling much at all for the next few months, so it's unlikely we'll get down to the DC area. (The last time I was down there was to visit NIH in '04.)

I've been really grateful over the last 2 years to discover people by these sorts of random connections, as well.

You get a semester at home? Yay! What a pleasant change of pace.

Well, yes, but with two undergraduate courses to teach, so I'm in front of a classroom 5 days a week. (I realize that for people in K-12 education, that's not exactly onerous, but I have a lot of responsibilities, and college lecturing is very taxing.)
