Ok. I think you all know that i've started at DoD. It's an interim job most likely, as i'm not thrilled with it, even though i don't mind it. It is more technical than my last position, which is kind of funny since i worked at a software company. On Thursday at 1400 i inteview with another software company, Plateau Systems, in Ballston. It sounds like more fun; gov't environments and i don't mesh ideally. I find them stressful. They're always going cheap and half-assed about stuff. It is less than ideal to say the least.

Anyway, the question:

If you were to dictate what i did for a living, what would i do?

I would have you be a ranger at a state park, though you would probably need law enforcement experience to do this. Perhaps something out-doorish relating to being a guide or what-not at a park, state or otherwise.

Good luck, by the way. Finding the job that's right for you and that you can deal with is hard, yet very important. It is, after all, around 50% of our waking lives (or in my case half-awake life.)

Hm. Park ranger. That could be fun. I checked the VA Dept. of Conservation and Recreation (http://www.dcr.state.va.us/)'s website. They'll train for law enforcement positions. Ranger jobs come in both law enforcment and non-law enforcement varieties.

I don't know about dictating your job, but I've previously suggested buyer for an international gourmet food store.

I'd like to come up with something that uses your knowledge of geography and religious history, but I'm not sure what jobs fit those specs.

I think that would be great fun, but i've no clue how to push myself in that direction. Add to that my general desire to stay in the DC area, and where to go with it.

Are you talking about the buyer idea or the not-yet-figured-out religion/geography idea?

The former. The religion/geography one was intriguing, but vague enough that response seemed not necessary.

Offhand, I'd say to make a list of gourmet stores in your area and talk with people about what it takes to become a buyer--it might be one of those work-your-way-up kind of things.
