Job Search Update

Today, I accepted an offer from TMSI to work for the Surface Deployment and Distribution Command (SDDC) of the US Dept. of Defense.

The insurance company will have me if i want to do it. I'm not absolutely certain that a life in sales is right for me.

I'm still waiting to hear from Oberthur, which is the position i'd really rather have. Though 2 offers from 4 interviews isn't bad.

I think i'll keep looking though.

Sounds like a mix bag of news. What were the upshots and analysis of the offers?

TMSI:

• Salaried rate of pay very marginally higher than what i was making before.
• Comes with insurance, even while i'm temping. (It's a 4.5 mo. temp-to-perm job.)
• Job that i'm lukewarm about due to previous bad experience as a gov't contractor.
• Steady income that kicks in immediately.
  
  Minus:
  
  • Longish commute to Old Town.

Bankers:

• Commission-based reactive sales job; pay is 100% commission.
• Comes with insurance, even starting out.
• ~$200 cost to get licensed in order to perform the job.
• 
  
  Plus:
  
  • Short commute to Chantilly for days in office, and for days not in office, work would be in the Reston/Herndon/Sterling area primarily.

When will you be starting one or the other? I do hope I'll still run into you from time to time, though it sounds like I'll need to get places eralier.

I'll be starting the TMSI/DoD one on Tuesday if the background check has been completed. Excitingly, on Thursday, a recruiter contacted me for a position at Nextel, 7 blocks from my house, paying 10% more than TMSI. I'm hoping i get an interview.
