Blackberry or iPhone? EDIT: Palm Treo has been mentioned also. Please discuss.

(A post about the vacation is forthcoming. Brief summary: we had a blast.)

I see the Treo 800W is available from my current provider - Sprint.

Physical interface, intergrated WiFi & GPS, infared port, microSD slot with microSDHC support, PTT support.

Also, it means you woul not have to leave your current service.

Also, the ability to use the phone as a laptop modem, the option of having a spare battery charged and ready, the ability to cut & paste.

Also, don't get me started on the iPhone's stability versus Palm or Windows Mobile when utilizing the same ammount of RAM.

I have neither but if you have an iPhone, you can supposedly get Dr. Horrble's van remote software here. (http://www.thesoftwire.com/horrible_remote.html) That's kinda cool (though I've no idea how it works.)

I skipped the whole Dr Horrible thing entirely due to lack of interest. Please to summarize.

Oh, I skipped it at first too due to my belief that if absolutely everybody is nuts about something, it can't be that good. But it was fantastic! Neil Patrick Harris sings very catchy songs and acts suitably horrible, while Nathan Fillon acts the cheesy superhero. Three fifteen-minute episodes. Joss Whedon put it together. I'd never seen Buffy or Firefly but definitely will be checking them out now.

It's funny because on the surface it's a bit of fluff with catchy songs, but there are layers to it. And the songs just won't leave your head. I'm still humming them, trying to remember all the words so I can actually sing them.

There are so many things I hate about the work-provided blackberry I'm crrently typing on. SO many.

That said, I don't know what its actual cost of operation is.

I liked the Blackberry that i had through work, though iPhone seems to provide better functionality on many, many levels. I've decided against the Samsung Instinct, due to markedly inferior to iPhone's touch-screen interface. Praytell what you like not?

I keep intending to get an iphone because I adore the web interface . . . but you have to look at the thing to dial or type, and there's as yet no voice dial. I'm also pretty hard on phones, too :(

I have an iPhone and love it; the only downside is lack of voice dialing but, well, it's not that big a deal to me. If you hate AT&T it will suck but I would ignore the complaints about the touch-screen keyboard until you've played with it a bit.

My partner has an iPhone, and i've used the touch-screen keyboard a bit, and it seems it'll work well as i use it more, as it has been easy to use from the get-go, though as i type with dvorak rather than qwerty, the layout is odd to me.

Yes, I'm told (and it has been my experience, to some degree), that it gets easier; they say to give it a week. I don't know of any way to change it to a dvorak layout, though.

The new App Store is a major win, in my opinion, although a number of the apps are, in fact, just silly. But there are good ones out there, too.

My only recommendation is to check out a GSM phone (AT&T, TMobile). The beauty is that with a SIM card, you don't have to go back to your dealer to change your phone. So if you want to check out a phone, you can swap with a friend for a week. If you want to switch to another phone, you can even buy one off EBay or take a discard from a friend. Plus, AT&T gives you rollover minutes, so you don't need to budget your time quite as strictly.

I guess one piece of advice about these phones is to think about whether you'll be holding it up to your ear, or trying to stick it in your pants pockets. They can be awkward that way.

I'll also be considering a fancy phone with a keyboard soon, so I'll be following this thread with interest.

My suggestion is neither: a real Pocket PC like the Mogul. Why? IMNSHO, it does more of what I want & need, does it better, but most importantly, has been doing it longer and with more partners for a much better service/options and programs availablility.

And you just can't beat Office Mobile for interoperability with your desktop. You get an entire mobile office and it's all in your phone.

Should you wish to, add a 3rd party Bluetooth keyboard and mouse, and you can set up shop anywhere with far greater portability and far less less cumbersomeness than a laptop.

And if i'm not a Wintel user, what might its advantages be?
