Got home from Balticon a couple hours ago. Hung out with a whole bunch of people, and got to see [livejournal.com profile] synger and [livejournal.com profile] jbsegal for the first time in much too long.

Had much fun, though i skipped all the programming. Even got to play a full mah jongg game, played in 2 parts on Fri and Sat nights, with [livejournal.com profile] billsears, [livejournal.com profile] scruffycritter, and [livejournal.com profile] nosebeepbear.

Sadly, no dining this con with [livejournal.com profile] nancylebov nor with Hanna Shapero, though i did get time to chat with them each briefly, plus a trip to Wegman's with Nancy. I recommend Hanna's art, see the link above, and Nancy's buttons. I vouch for her calligraphic prowess.

I had fun gaming today with [livejournal.com profile] starmalachite, [livejournal.com profile] stevemb, [livejournal.com profile] blackfeather, Marc, and others. We did some TransAmerica and some Thurn und Taxis.

Oh, and after a chain of events that lead to me carrying a piece of framed art from Cambrigde, MA - i took posession at Arisia - to Reston, VA, to Hunt Valley, MD, it was finally reunited with [livejournal.com profile] wayward_va via [livejournal.com profile] not_the_pope (who ordained Cardinal Wrong, and elevated Saint Ow and Saint Darwin this weekend), and [livejournal.com profile] scruffycritter.

I'm not as sleep deprived as usual after a con, thanks to a decent night's sleep yesterday.

Actually, [livejournal.com profile] wayward_va gets it tomorrow when he comes over after work.

LOL. Maybe we should start trading it back and forth among several of us in various loctains, while giving [livejournal.com profile] wayward_va vague clues while he tries to hunt it down. ;)

note that I've been attempting to get it to him since I got it at Torcon III. That would be September 2003.

Last year, I finally took it to Arisia and gave it to [livejournal.com profile] jim_p, who framed it and then had it at his framing shop until last December. It is a well travelled piece of Kelly Freas art, though it does seem to get comfortable and not want to move for long periods of time ;-)

Wow, this means that almost precisely half of the way through this artwork's odyssey, it's maker *died*.

They don't call it "Fannish Express" for nuthin :-).

I remember commenting on that to Steve once; he told me about Freas dying, and my first response was, 'Boy. Guess I really should get you this original sketch of his now, shouldn't I?'

Sorry we never ran into each other - I often get suck[er]ed into helping out in the ballroom and don't see a lot of the rest of the con...

All good. There were many people whom i never saw all weekend. I spent most of the con in the lobby or the gaming room, with a foray to the art show, and 2 to the hucksters.

Hannah mentioned having a show (really) soon in Falls Church, but I failed to write down
or remember the details. I was hoping it would be on her web site, but no dice. Do you
have such information or a way to obtain it?

I can find out. I can post here, call, or email you. Which do you prefer?

Email is probably best, but posting here would be equivalent, and accessible to more people.
I doubt she'd mind at all if more people knew about her show.

At least we managed some high-quality hanging out together.

http://www.biglove.lvhr.com/recipes/egyptian/egypt2.html

has some recipes for koshery/koshary, the most interesting thing I ate at the con. As for the meals I did eat out, the odds were astonishingly low of getting good food. Daimon's (Damon's?), a steakhouse, did worse cooking and got more orders wrong than I think I've ever seen at a restaurant. The Egyptian place had very nice Koshery (rice/macaroni/lentils/angelhair with lamb, *spicy* tomato sauce, and very fried narrow onion strips), but was mostly uninspired otherwise.
