Very wrong. So wrong that I had to stop it after 15 seconds to bash my head against a nearby wall.

But it's so very silly, and their silver Docs are only £64.95.

If this was #18, part of me is very curious what numbers 17 through 1 are. :-)

Indeed. I didn't search this out. A friend in Madrid posted the link. I'll see what i can dig up.

Another LJ friend had already posted it to their journal, too. It is, shall we say, different! :-)

Don't DO that to me first thing in the morning!

Silver lame, lederhosen, star helmets and an accordian.
I need brain bleach.

Polka advocating world peace is a wonderful thing.

Hey! This song was a strong contender for Eurovision this year!

It's an ode to world peace, which explains the Mongolian lyrics.

Neat. I could not identify most of the languages, but could tell they switched regularly.

Y'know, I think that's probably exactly what the world needs more of: mirror-coated Ukrainian drag queens singing polyglot techno-polka. It gives you a certain perspective. Plus it's fun to say.

I agree. :)

I'm in total agreement with [livejournal.com profile] dr_tectonic here. :)

And I'm also happy that between your friends who commented, [livejournal.com profile] dcseain, I have a reasonable little backstory. Reasonable enough, at least, to save me from going and finding out more myself. ;)

I found [livejournal.com profile] leiacat's comment particularly enlightening. She and her family moved here from Белоруссия when she was a teenager, so has a more expansize cultural reference for that part of the world.

I also found [livejournal.com profile] darrenzieger's comparison to the B-52s rather apt.

I don't know why [livejournal.com profile] turtleduck knows what she does about, but i hope to see her tonight and ask.

Hm. Thus far, the gay men and the russian jew agree it's a good thing, and a few 'ay! it burns!" Interesting. I guess this proves that homosexuals and Jews run the entertainment industry.

...or at least that we're trendsetters.

I'm also partial to things Russian/Jewish, as somewhere between 1/4 and 3/8 of my ancestry is from there.

I kinda liked it. Better than tatu, perhaps because in music I tend to enjoy the silly more than the pseudo-sexy.

Okay...

Of course, my first reaction is "owww, owww, make it stop...it hurts us, cruel hobbitses!"

However, after hitting pause and letting the blood rush back to my brain (from which it had fled in terror) I have to admit that it's hard to know what to think of an act like this without context. I'm guessing that the presentation, and probably the musical style as well, are being played intentionally for camp.

Granted, there's no accounting for taste, especially when it comes to pop culture; and parodies like Mike Meyer's "Dieter" character are not without some basis in the real world. But I've got to assume that in Europe, with its vastly better educated, more culturally sophisticated populace compared to the U.S., an act like this that took itself seriously wouldn't succeed (or, more to the point, wouldn't exist in the first place).

Hell, the B-52s - and entirely ironic band - found a mass audience in this backward country.

These guys are -- based on this one sample -- much less sophisticated musically (perhaps on purpose) and much more flamboyant, but I'd bet you €1,000 they're coming from the same place.

Not that that makes it any more watchable. They really ought to test this kind of stuff on lab rats before putting it up on YouTube.

Thta anonymous post...

Oh, I actually rather like Verka Serdyuchka - she often does hilariously tongue-in-cheek stuff, and the performer is a pretty talented fellow.

I suppose if you're not familiar with the character it could be kinda scary.

I didn't dislike it. It's very silly, and i like silly. Verka Serdyuchka is woman in yellow?

Um, no. The shiny-looking soloist. That outfit is drag, y'know.
