Feldspar walked across the UPS and managed to turn it off by stepping just-so upon the power button. I opine that power buttons do not belong where creatures can accidentaly step on, nor otherwise trigger, them.

My mystery shutdowns were solved by covering the power switch on the UPS.

And in the case of many UPSs with moderately recessed buttons that is easy to accomplish with nothing more than tape and possibly some cardboard.

For models with protruding buttons an easy, moderately good looking, and practically no cost way to cover a button involves the use of a bottle cap with modeling clay as the adhesive. The advantage of the modeling clay is that it is easy to remove the cover if you need to access the button.

Chessie did that once & I was so glad I had a laptop. Lost the Internet, but my computer didn't die.

Once Kiddie walked across my keyboard, and managed to select the bookmark editor, select all the bookmarks, and then delete them.

To this day, I have no idea how to do all that from the keyboard, let alone how to do it in 3 or 4 cords.

Yes, important switches should be on the front, not the top, and ideally recessed
and requiring more than a feather touch to operate. Rotate 90?
