Hey, All. [livejournal.com profile] sungo is seeking a VOIP. Which would you suggest?

I've got lingo

Lingo seems fine. I have lingo because I can get a Toronto area number with lingo. Lingo is the same price as broadvoice. Broadvoice has more countries with free calling than does lingo. I don't usually call outside the US, Canada or Western Europe (which lingo does cover), so the fewer countries covered doesn't matter to me.

If he signs up with lingo and mentions me, we both get a free month of service.

AT&T CallVantage. In my limited experience (because I've only had one problem that required live support), they have great customer service.

I'm going to second this; I got lingo because [livejournal.com profile] blackfeather referred me and took up the unlimited calling plan. Not a single problem over my Comcast modem and also a month free this month for both me and blackfeather. Strongly suggest doing the referral thing with blackfeather for that too. Oh, and $20 or so a month is a big saving over what I paid for copper through Verizon.

If cost savings are the up-shot of VOIP (and LINGO), what is the downside of this service? Do you have the other phone services like caller ID, a voice message box, and other features? Thanks for satisfying my curiosity.

Yes, I have caller ID (though for some reason it only reports the number, not the registered owner of the number, but I don't have an issue with that.) There is voicemail and you can set up Lingo to email you a notification that you have voice mail and you can also receive a wav of the voice mail, which is what I do now.

Other features available: http://lingo.com/voip/features/voip_features.jsp - a very useful one if you have a friend/family member/lover you want to be able to call you at local rates, you can get a phone number in their area/country for an extra $5-$10 a month.

There are three home plans, $8 for limited calling time with the least number of minutes, up to $20 for unlimited calling.

The only issue I really was a little concerned with was that it took a couple of weeks for them to finish registering 911 service.
