1 -- Leave a comment, saying you want to be interviewed.
2 -- I will respond; I'll ask you five questions.
3 -- You'll update your journal with my five questions, and your five answers.
4 -- You'll include this explanation.
5 -- You'll ask other people five questions when they want to be interviewed.
1. What resources do you normally turn to for ritual writing?
First, people i know who specialize in a given holiday/ritual.
For Solar/Cross-Quarter stuff, i like the books in this series (Ostara as a sample) as a starting point.
I consult various books of mythology. I look in Singing the Living Tradition, which is the UU hymnal. I’ll read hymns for imagery sometimes, or scan the readings in the back for source materials.
My personal experience plays a large part of it also, especially when it comes to Samhain and/or death and dying. I have much experience with death, dying, and ancestors, not least of all because my mother’s father’s people work mostly as undertakers. Between that and the Old Ways passed down from my mother’s mother’s mother’s people, it really a natural fit.
I’m happy to expand on this more if any of you have more specific questions; i’m very good about answering specific questions.
2. What are you currently reading?
Fingerprints of the Gods by Graham Hancock, which i think will lead me to reread El Popol Vuh and some of the Vedic writings.
3. How is the job thing going? I heard you were still interviewing, and I thought got another offer, but I think I got so busy at work I haven't been following lately.
On 13 October, i interviewed with Managed Objects, a pre-IPO company in Tysons Corner. They informed me that they would make an offer on the same day. I got the offer on the 14th, and accepted on the 17th. I’ll start with them on 1 November. I’ll be doing 2nd-level helpdesk for them for them.
4. What is your favorite game at Games Night?
Hmm. There are a lot i’ve not tried. I enjoy Killer Bunnies, and i like Settlers. Burn Rate’s fun.
5. Any games you have played elsewhere (or heard about elsewhere) that you think would be a good addition to our Games Night shelf?
Iron Dragon, Ticket to Ride, & TransAmerica are all fun, and listed from longest playtime to shortest. I like Unexploded Cow from Cheapass games. Among ‘classic’ games, i enjoy, Monopoly, Scrabble, Mah Jong, Bridge, and Trivial Pursuit, though finding people to play those with can be a challenge. I’m happy to teach any of those to anyone interested; Mah Jong and Bridge require 4 people.
