Funerals Are for the Living
Nov. 22nd, 2009 10:53 pmBack on 6 August i mentioned the passing of Kevin Drewery, aka Midian. He was an ex of mine due to his not wanting to burden people with his illness - he had HIV, from which complications he died - and his feeling the need to move on alone.
It was a very pleasant surprise that his brother was there today for the service at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Silver Spring, which church i've been thinking about going back to.
In typical style, he planned the whole service himself, in entirety, right down to providing a cd with the music:
Spirit of Life, come unto me
Sing in my heart all the stirrings of compassion.
Blow in the wind, rise in the sea;
Move in the hand, giving life the shape of justice,
Roots hold me close; wings set me free;
Spirit of Life, come to me, come to me
He included words from himself, which we heard. Those were recorded sometime after 2006-10-10 and 2007-10-10, as he stated that he was 40.
Alas,
tomhundleyrn was not available to accompany me, much as that was desired. Sometimes it's like that. Happily, there were many other there, and we were all supportive of each other.
Many beautiful memories were shared, summarized here very nicely by
dmiley.
Hm. I'm sure there's more to say on this, but i think this is all for now.
