On the 8th, at the request of [livejournal.com profile] sincityopera, i went to an audition for a production of Anything Goes being put on by the Chalice Theater of the UU Church of Arlington, VA. I had a lingering upper respiratory infection, a swollen throat, and a stuffy nose, and it was a singing audition, my first for them, at callbacks. I could only sing bass that day due to the throat/lung thing.

During my solo sing for the (music director?) woman at the piano, she initially complained that i was singing an octave low, to which i was like, yeah. She asked if i could sing higher, and i told her that, no, not today, though usually, yes. So she started playing an octave lower. I'm used to harmonizing, so she didn't have to do that, but anyway... She was a bit annoyed that i was only able to do bass.

They called me today and offered me the role of John, one of the Chinamen (Ching and Ling, as originally written), who apparently will be cowboys for this production. I accepted. So, having survived The Two Gentlemen of Verona this spring, in a bit role as a minstrel on violin, i go on to a marginally-more-than-bit role, in a singing production no less! Who'da thunk.

Production opens and runs in March. [livejournal.com profile] sincityopera will be playing Reno, i believe. So, come spring, after i'm done complaining about the production - rehearsals start next month, yall should come out and see us.
