Do You Believe?
Feb. 10th, 2006 11:36 pmI see spirituality and religion as two things which may or may not fully intersect. For me, religion is usually dogmatic, whereas spirituality usually isn't; religion requires faith, spirituality may or may not.
Spirituality, Faith, and Religion. My personal spirituality is Native American from my father blended with the Eastern European Old Ways i learned from my maternal grandparents and great-grandparents. My personal faith says that there be Divine in the universe, and that Divine reveals itself continuously in myriad ways, many of which are only perceptible if one is open to them. I believe in some things supernatural, e.g. souls, and that they be immortal and that they can, and do, roam the Earth. My religion is Unitarian Universalism, though my personal leanings are more Universalist, as it meshes nicely with the concept of Great Spirit.
In my humble opinion, Atheism is a spirituality, and a faith; faith that there be no deity/divine/supernatural. Atheism can be as a religion, but is not always so. It certainly manifests as a religion for militant atheists.
