Stupid transit tricks

I live near Reston Town Center. Yesterday, i got a bus and a train to Ballston. Including walk to bus, took me about 45 minutes. Approx this route.

My usual work location is 3 miles away in Herndon. Getting there via transit requires either three buses and more than an hour, or two buses, starting with a 5 mile trip in the wrong direction, and about an hour.

You should walk! It should take you 45 minutes to an hour and be really good for you :)

The situation is the same in Springfield -- Metro figured out that by simply not bothering to update its bus routes to connect to Franconia-Springfield station, they can charge an "express" premium for each bus-to-rail connection.

As i replied to this elsewhere, i believe that buses to Franconia-Springfield would not as well serve the greater Springield area as the current buses to the Pentagon do, as most workers are aiming for DC or Arlington, both of which are faster to get to via bus to Pentagon than via rail from Franconia-Springfield.
