Foxes and cats and geese, oh my!

Last night, there were weird noises, which eventually [livejournal.com profile] benhill and i determined were foxes barking. Then the barking changed, i heard a goose honk, Jasper ran into the house, i went out on the deck and found Feldspar wide-eyed with, i'm not sure whether it was terror or curiousity, then heard much growling and rustling in the woods behind the house. I think the foxes got a goose.

Ewwww. Are the gems your cats? I'm glad they're ok. We have to worry about cougars and raccoons and mostly coyotes eating pet cats out in the boonies in the other Washington.

Yep. I've not uploaded a pix of Feldspar yet, but this is Jasper (http://pics.livejournal.com/dcseain/pic/00001ph0/g2).

They go out onto our back deck, and onto the adjoining neighbour's deck. Bigger threat to cats here are hawks, eagles, and owls.

Awww what a pretty cat! I forgot about the threat from the air - seems really strange doesn't it?

Well, i knew those birds ate rabbits. When we lived in Chantilly (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&q=4215+newport+dr+20151&ie=UTF8&ll=38.882481,-77.420654&spn=0.387517,0.929031&om=1), Jasper was allowed out in the backyard. One day, i was in the laundry room, through which he usually went into the yard, when i heard a hawk. I went to the door, and the cat nearly ran into me. He was running away from the hawk. That very much drove home that danger, the fact that that screech is hard-wired into even felix domesticus.
