I understand, and can almost converse fluently in Sicilano and Neapolitano, but standard Italian escapes me when spoken mostly. I wonder if a couple weeks there would change that. My German is quite weak, not having really used it much since i was about 10.
Can't really claim fluency, but I can still mostly decipher a newspaper or website in German. I seem to speak it with a Frankfurter accent due to being raised around Pa. Dutch, which descends directly from that dialect. My accent is therefore far better than my vocabulary or grammar, which means that I can be taken for a native speaker and get in over my head in a conversation *real* fast.
My Spanish has gotten a real workout lately from dealing with the workmen renovating our house, so my reading comprehension has gone up some.
I can still read French fairly well too, but can't and never could pronounce it correctly to save my life. I think too much exposure to a form of German in my youth is partly to blame.
I remember the Russian alphabet, some conjugations, and a pitifully small vocabulary. Need to work on that.
