Back from I-Con in one piece, despite the deluge from which i am still wet in Philadelphia unloading Nancy and her stuff. My phone is in New Hyde Park, NY, however, so email me or IM me til i figure out how to get it or replace it. Thanks! :D

Last Thursday, i left for Boston viaPhiladelphia, picking up [livejournal.com profile] nancylebov on the way, and got to [livejournal.com profile] thespian's house about 00:30 on Friday. We got in late due to starting out later than planned and pausing for food at The Club Diner in Bellmawr, NJ. We first stopped at that diner one night on our way back from a con - we were both ravenous, and it beckoned from the side of NJ 168 on our way to the Ben Franklin Bridge. We've eaten many meals there over the years now, and recommend it if you find yourself at Exit 3 on the NJTP or Exit 28 from I-295 in NJ. Head W from the Turnpike or E from 295: it's on the S side of the road.

Friday we got to the hotel. Saturday i went for a walk up to Central Square and got me a sundae at Toscanini's, and sat and reminisced for a bit before walking back to the hotel, where i ran into Amqueue, with whom i had a lovely dinner at the hotel restaurant, Zephyr on the Charles. They do lovely, lovely soups there. I also ate my dinner on Sunday night at the hotel restaurant. Food was good-to-decent for what i had - though again, the soups were all lovely.

The hotel provided a food bar at the bottom of the escalator on the 1st floor with a wide variety of yummy things, including a veggie chili and a selection of soups, a variety of Uno's personal pan pizzas, a veggie noodle box, various wraps, cookies, a terrific setup of fresh-baked potatoes with most any common topping you could want, and all were reasonably priced. Most of my food came from that selection over the weekend.

Ran into and/or chatted with a bunch of people at least in passing including: [livejournal.com profile] britecloth, [livejournal.com profile] jbsegal, [livejournal.com profile] ckd, [livejournal.com profile] lordlnyc, [livejournal.com profile] badgerthorazine, [livejournal.com profile] kdsorceress, [livejournal.com profile] happypete, [livejournal.com profile] prettypammie, M and chinfuzzy - whom i get to see only at Arisia usually, and bunches of others.

Monday night [livejournal.com profile] nancylebov and i spent with the most gracious [livejournal.com profile] thespian again, and we ate at The Club Diner again, getting into Philadelphia a bit after 23. I finally got home about 14:30. We happily left the wintry mix behind us somewhere in Connecticut, and had clearish, mostly dry travel the rest of the way down.

I need to take [livejournal.com profile] tomhundleyrn up to Boston for some days so we can visit people and places. He's not been there yet. Only place he's been in Massachusetts so far is Pittsfield.

Hey, Yall!

Made my hotel reservation today. I may need space to sleep during the day on Friday. I'll be arriving onsite between 09:30 & 10 on Friday, and i won't know until 08:00 whether i can check in at that hour. I have dinner plans on Friday with [livejournal.com profile] nosebeepbear. I know i'll have a meal at some point with [livejournal.com profile] suecochran. Those be my plans thus far, plus the Chorus, of course. I know i'll see many of you there. i'm staying at the hotel through Monday, what with my work schedule. So if anyone's around, Monday lunch would be lovely. I have to be in Springfield, VA by 19 on that Monday.

Got home from Balticon a couple hours ago. Hung out with a whole bunch of people, and got to see [livejournal.com profile] synger and [livejournal.com profile] jbsegal for the first time in much too long.

Had much fun, though i skipped all the programming. Even got to play a full mah jongg game, played in 2 parts on Fri and Sat nights, with [livejournal.com profile] billsears, [livejournal.com profile] scruffycritter, and [livejournal.com profile] nosebeepbear.

Sadly, no dining this con with [livejournal.com profile] nancylebov nor with Hanna Shapero, though i did get time to chat with them each briefly, plus a trip to Wegman's with Nancy. I recommend Hanna's art, see the link above, and Nancy's buttons. I vouch for her calligraphic prowess.

I had fun gaming today with [livejournal.com profile] starmalachite, [livejournal.com profile] stevemb, [livejournal.com profile] blackfeather, Marc, and others. We did some TransAmerica and some Thurn und Taxis.

Oh, and after a chain of events that lead to me carrying a piece of framed art from Cambrigde, MA - i took posession at Arisia - to Reston, VA, to Hunt Valley, MD, it was finally reunited with [livejournal.com profile] wayward_va via [livejournal.com profile] not_the_pope (who ordained Cardinal Wrong, and elevated Saint Ow and Saint Darwin this weekend), and [livejournal.com profile] scruffycritter.

I'm not as sleep deprived as usual after a con, thanks to a decent night's sleep yesterday.

Drove up to Arisia on Friday. [livejournal.com profile] suecochran called me when i was in Connecticut, at Exit 25 on I-95. Oddly, that's where she and her carload were, too. She had [livejournal.com profile] peacespear, [livejournal.com profile] nancylebov, and her son with her. I'm so glad that [livejournal.com profile] persis kindly bought memberships for the 4 of us, other than Nancy, else we might not have gotten in under the attendance cap.

The journey up - uneventful until Cambridge )

I at long last got to meet [livejournal.com profile] palmwiz, which was a big happy! :D Unfortunately, we did not get to hang at all. I'm probably coming up for Boskone, hopefully we can hang some then. I also got to have a meal with [livejournal.com profile] prettypammie, [livejournal.com profile] happypete, and Quinn, which was nice. It struck me in chatting with them that i live as close to them as i do to my family, so i hopefully will see more of them now that i understand that they're not as far as VA 7 and VA 9 make it feel.

I had a nice, low-key time at the con. Spent a spot of time with [livejournal.com profile] voltbang and [livejournal.com profile] chelona, too. The hotel layout was a but wack, especially the tiny little staircase between floors 2 and 3, but the hotel staff were troopers, and fixed the broken elevator promptly, and helped us make sure we didn't break the other 2. Next year, i think they'll make sure all 4 are in tip-top shape before we get there, and we'll be more mindful of load limits.

Sunday - dining, shopping, and horse action figures )

On arrival at Mary Chungs, ran into [livejournal.com profile] scruffycritter, [livejournal.com profile] mobmama and their party. Then, while both our parties were there, in walks [livejournal.com profile] badmagic! I was in Cambridge, MA, dining in a restaurant full of people from the DC-Philly corridor, very odd.

After dinner, dessert at Toscanini's, another Cambridge shop i dearly miss shopping at.

Monday - the 16-hour drive home )Long and short of it, i got home at 03:30. I took today off, too.

Thanksgiving Day, i had a lovely meal with [livejournal.com profile] agentxs at Hunan Manor in Columbia. The food was delicious, and the company exquisite. From there, i headed up to the hotel for Darkover, where i happened to meet up with [livejournal.com profile] nosebeepbear and [livejournal.com profile] supremeherptile for a meal. Went to bed early so that on Friday, i could pick up [livejournal.com profile] nancylebov and bring her down to the con, which went well. I've worked with [livejournal.com profile] nancylebov at many cons for a couple of years now, this one went easier than most in terms of unloading at the con and packing up after the con; not quite sure why that was.

I spent the weekend at Darkover: hanging with people, dining, swimming, meeting a few new people. Saturday i played several hands of Mah Jongg with [livejournal.com profile] nosebeepbear, and two men whose name's i'm not recalling at the moment. I sang the Hallelujah Chorus with lots of others around the pool, and then joined others Christmas carolling in the main program room. And despite my speaking voice, i sing bass, and some bari, for those who've not heard me sing. After the carolling, one of the other carollers had me listen to John Denver song, and then i went back into the hotel to recruit some people to go to the diner. Ended up going there with [livejournal.com profile] hawkwind2000 and Charles Butler, and we were joined promptly by [livejournal.com profile] nosebeepbear and [livejournal.com profile] cptsevern. Nothing like a good meal at 02:00.

Awoke Sunday at 10:30 after not nearly enough sleep, checked out and tossed my things in the car. Then i plopped into a chair outside the pool and endeavoured to nap, but got interrupted by a couple people asking if i were okay. It's nice to know that people care, even though it disturbed my nap. Had brunch with [livejournal.com profile] nosebeepbear, [livejournal.com profile] scruffycritter, [livejournal.com profile] not_the_pope, [livejournal.com profile] ottour, and [livejournal.com profile] ladysmith and her hubby and child. (And now i know who [livejournal.com profile] ladysmith is - one less mystery in my life.) After the dealer's room closed, i packed [livejournal.com profile] nancylebov's business into my car and took her home, after pausing for Indian, where we ran into and joined Rik Fire and his wife, and Lady Amber Dawn and her friend D. Got to Charles Butler's place a bit before midnight, then we went chez moi, that i could drop him at IAD for his trip to Brazil.

Monday, i slept most of the day. Today, i'm back at work.

Today, i left the house and noticed that:
  • the lindens are as green as they are white now
  • the redbuds are fading fast
  • the dogwoods are on the verge of bursting forth
  • the Northern Maples are nearly done blooming, and the Southern ones are about to bloom
  • some of the deciduous Magnolia are nearing past-bloom
  • the daffodils are going strong still
  • the croci are fading
This spring is just flying by.

Lunacon week before last was fun, but financially disappointing. This past weekend, I-CON was fun, and financially rewarding. I'm glad to be home for a bit now.

As a reminder for those of you in the general DC area, i'm going hiking at Sky Meadows on Saturday. I'm being joined by [livejournal.com profile] benhill, a coworker of ours, and probably [livejournal.com profile] blackfeather. We're departing from Tysons at 09:30, at least that's the plan at present. I'll be picking people up from East Falls Church at about that time for any arriving by Metro instead of car. Final meeting place will be decided tomorrow once i've confirmed who all is coming. Comment or email if you'd like to join in. [livejournal.com profile] benhill's dog, Duke, will likely be with us too. I'm heading out there again on the 22nd of April too.

Talked to my boss. Turns out i have Friday and Monady off. So i will go to Philcon with [livejournal.com profile] nancylebov without any feelings of guilt, nor worry about needing to make up hours at main job. And the guy into whose house i've moved will feed the cats. Happy day.

I need to rearrange furniture in my main bedroom. That will make unpacking and putting away the mountains of laundry easier. I want to set up the smaller bedroom as a guest room, which i will also likely use for practicing my music, unless i decide to do that downstairs. We'll see.
